About

A few years ago, my partner decided to painstakingly disassemble his first digital camera, a Nikon Coolpix 950, and convert it to infrared by replacing the tiny blue glass IR filter inside with clear optical glass. My first foray into digital infrared photography was with this camera.

My interest in infrared photography was piqued by the ethereally beautiful photographs in a book by Hugh Milsom, ‘Infra-Red Photography: A Complete Workshop Guide’ (Fountain Press, 2001). I hadn’t the experience or money to photograph with infrared film, so was keen to experiment with digital infrared.

The photographs on this site are taken with the modified Nikon Coolpix 950, using a Hoya R72 filter, and since April 2008, with a Fuji IS-1 camera using a B+W 092 filter.
